If you like Alex Rider, there’s no reason why you won’t like these。Only problem would be that for some reason they aren’t in chronological order which is annoying。 That and the fact that the story that takes place before Stormbreaker undermines how surprised Alex was to discover the truth in that book。

I think that it was a very good book to read, but it doesn't make any sense why none of the events that happened in this book were mentioned in any of the other books。 I think that it was a very good book to read, but it doesn't make any sense why none of the events that happened in this book were mentioned in any of the other books。 。。。more

The stories are in a random order but they are really good

I'll forever find these books relentlessly entertaining even as I get further and further from the target demographic。 They remind me of being a kid and finding them impossible to put down。 This series of short stories has all the thrill of the best bits of the longer books while working in smaller chunks。 My only issue is they don't seem to be chronological with the other books, but usually the story gives you enough context within the series anyway。 I'll forever find these books relentlessly entertaining even as I get further and further from the target demographic。 They remind me of being a kid and finding them impossible to put down。 This series of short stories has all the thrill of the best bits of the longer books while working in smaller chunks。 My only issue is they don't seem to be chronological with the other books, but usually the story gives you enough context within the series anyway。 。。。more

For story one, ‘Alex in Afghanistan,’ there were a couple mistakes early on made by Horowitz, which made me wince a little。 However, the story was a lot of fun with intense action scenes, cool gadgets and a setting we haven’t seen Alex in before。 Overall, a cracking story。 4 stars。 The second story was ‘The Man With Eleven Fingers。’ It was pretty cool。 Ex-soldiers wanting to exploit a corrupt banker - definitely an interesting idea。 It was incredibly quick, with cause and effect taking place see For story one, ‘Alex in Afghanistan,’ there were a couple mistakes early on made by Horowitz, which made me wince a little。 However, the story was a lot of fun with intense action scenes, cool gadgets and a setting we haven’t seen Alex in before。 Overall, a cracking story。 4 stars。 The second story was ‘The Man With Eleven Fingers。’ It was pretty cool。 Ex-soldiers wanting to exploit a corrupt banker - definitely an interesting idea。 It was incredibly quick, with cause and effect taking place seemingly instantly, and Alex taking down the bad guys once again。 Not as good as the first one, and one element of the story was a bit too ambitious, but definitely an enjoyable short story。 3 stars。Story three, ‘High Tension,’ was ridiculously short。 But it was fun。 What was supposed to be a simple parasailing ride turned into something that could’ve been deadly, but Alex managed to stop it。 Typical Alex Rider fashion。 3 stars。Story four, ‘Secret Weapon,’ was the perfect short story。 I absolutely loved how it was connected to a small event that took place in in the very iconic first novel of Stormbreaker。 The prison escape was cool, the action and final showdown was brilliant and most of all, I loved seeing Tom Harris again。 He is such a great character and his connection with Alex is unrivalled。 I don’t think you can have a better short story than this。 As a short story I give it 5 stars。‘Tea With Smithers’ was also ridiculously short。 It was interesting to read it in the first person from Alex’s perspective。 It was a cool story with an invention that I certainly didn’t see coming, and neither did Alex! Typical Smithers!! 3 stars。Another story in first person, ‘Christmas At Gunpoint’ was pretty epic。 I loved the imagery of the ski resort as I have never been to one myself。 It was interesting to see Alex and Ian together in a dangerous situation, and how naive Alex was, hehe。 The skiing climax was brilliant too。 I enjoyed it。 In the past I wished we had seen more of Ian Rider, so I’m glad we saw a little more of him here。 4 stars。The last story was ‘Spy Trap,’ and I have to say that it was a little boring。 Not too much happened until it got to the end, and to be fair, the ending was well done。 “Alex Rider needed a holiday, but that was the last thing he was going to get” - absolutely badass。 3 stars。 。。。more

More money than you can begin to imagine。” “What were you going to do with it?” “Well, you probably won’t believe me, but I wanted to give it all to charity。” “Really?” Alex was amazed。 “Absolutely。 The fun of it was actually stealing it, doing it under everyone’s noses without getting caught。 I didn’t particularly want it for myself。”Horowitz, Anthony。 Secret Weapon (Alex Rider) 。 Walker Books。 Kindle Edition。 (hide spoiler)] (hide spoiler)]This was longer than most of the other short stories and before I'd read Alex in Afghanistan was my favourite Alex Rider short story so far。 I enjoyed Alex's thought processes and his quick thinking to get the upper hand。 And I loved the ending。 (view spoiler)[ “You’re Alex Rider?” “Yes。” The policeman shook his head in disbelief。 “We were told you might be on board。 We’re to take you back downriver。 You have an urgent meeting。” “With MI6?” “No。 With a dentist。” So there was to be no escape after all。Horowitz, Anthony。 Secret Weapon (Alex Rider) 。 Walker Books。 Kindle Edition。 (hide spoiler)] 3 stars。HIGH TENSION (Alex Rider, #2。5)Originally published as Quite a Ride and Incident in Nice and now titled, High Tension。 The basic premise is the same but the names of the family Alex stays with are changed。 This short story is set after Point Blanc and before Skeleton Key。Alex is holidaying in France with his friend, Wilfred Sutton and the Sutton family。 When Wilfred and his parents go to visit some old friends, they leave Alex in the care of their neighbor/housekeeper person and suggest that she take him parasailing。 While parasailing, the boat driver has a heart attack and the boat starts to head for the busy shoreline。 Alex uses all his skill to prevent injuries。 This isn't my favourite Alex Rider short story, but it's not bad - mainly just a slice of life interlude rather than a real tale。 2 stars。SECRET WEAPON (Alex Rider, #4。5)This story was previously published with the same name and set between Skeleton Key and Eagle Strike。 In this newly published version, this is set after Eagle Strike, there are name changes and the plot has been expanded。Skoda, the drug dealer Alex put away in Chapter 2-4 of Point Blanc is back and he's looking for revenge。 He orchestrates a prison breakout so he can personally kill Alex Rider。 Alex is enjoying a school trip to the museum when Skoda manages to find him。 This was alright, pretty straightforward revenge plot being carried out。 Thought it was pretty typical of M16 to (view spoiler)[ plant the new teacher, Miss Maxwell, but not bother to tell Alex that Skoda has broken out and was he was in danger。 (hide spoiler)] It kind of felt a bit random though。 Although I did think the advice to look at the person in a uniform, not just the uniform was good advice。 (view spoiler)[ Alex realized he was in danger before he understood why。 Suddenly he remembered the man he had seen standing outside the school and knew that this was the same man, that he had been held back on purpose。 He was angry with himself。 It was something he should have learned by now。 Just because someone is wearing a uniform – a policeman, a fireman, a nurse – it doesn’t mean that’s what they are。 He’d seen the clothes。 He hadn’t examined the person inside them。Horowitz, Anthony。 Secret Weapon (Alex Rider) 。 Walker Books。 Kindle Edition。 (hide spoiler)] An enjoyable little interlude, set after Eagle Strike。 2 stars。TEA WITH SMITHERSOkay that was odd。 Alex has tea with Smithers and is challenged to find his latest invention。 (view spoiler)[ It's a hologram Smithers。 (hide spoiler)] Plus we get to learn more about why Smithers joined M16 - he's grandfather was a Special Operations Executive creating gadgets and weapons for WWII。 This was a very short interlude told in first person and like most of the rest of the collection, set after Point Blanc。 It was pretty random but interesting I guess。 2 stars。CHRISTMAS AT GUNPOINT (Alex Rider, #0。5)Short story told in first person。 Christmas at Gunpoint is set before Stormbreaker and Alex reminisces about a Christmas he spent with his uncle, Ian Rider, and almost discovered his secret spy life。 This story is now available as part of the short story collection; Secret Weapon。I didn't feel this was as good as the later novels or short stories。 Alex is kind of dim。 I mean jeez how many hints can you get? And fair enough if he just decided not to ask but he didn't even seem to realise something was up with his uncle。 2 stars。SPY TRAP (Alex Rider, #3。5)This story is set directly after Skeleton Key。 Alex and John Crawley are on their way home from the airport when they have a car accident。 Alex wakes up in a hospital with no memory and struggles to put things together。 (view spoiler)[ Yep - it wasn't a car accident。 They were ambushed。 Honestly, I thought I was going to find out what happened to the clone when they started talking about not being able to remember stuff。 Alex is a real trooper, pulling himself together, stopping the drugs, working hard to remember what actually happened。 My biggest problem with this story is you never really find out why。 The reasons given seem kind of weak。 (hide spoiler)] 。。。more

Christmas at Gunpoint and Spytrap were good, the rest were squarely in the "yeah I see why this idea didn't get reused and incorporated into a book" territory。 Christmas at Gunpoint and Spytrap were good, the rest were squarely in the "yeah I see why this idea didn't get reused and incorporated into a book" territory。 。。。more

yes i am still putting off continuing past scorpia rising so here i am。 i'm having fun thoalex in afghanistan: just reads like a short alex novel (obvs w less set up and fewer twists) of alex's first 'failed' mission。 i always forget just how chilling mi6 is when it comes to using alex and then they send alex into a terrorist base to follow a completely different plan from everyone else he's working with and relying on and then use him to unknowingly plant a bombthe man with eleven fingers: i li yes i am still putting off continuing past scorpia rising so here i am。 i'm having fun thoalex in afghanistan: just reads like a short alex novel (obvs w less set up and fewer twists) of alex's first 'failed' mission。 i always forget just how chilling mi6 is when it comes to using alex and then they send alex into a terrorist base to follow a completely different plan from everyone else he's working with and relying on and then use him to unknowingly plant a bombthe man with eleven fingers: i liked this one。 i like the child soldier discussion and the bait and switch of the villain especiallyhigh tension: life-threatening but in a fun and rompy way, rather than a way that makes me want to kill every adult in the seriessecret weapon: follows directly on from eagle strike we catch up a character from point blank - again it's mostly fun w an undercurrent of hating mi6tea w smithers: very chill - one of the few times i think where we see that alex doesn't truly trust smithers and are reminded that even tho this man treats alex much better than everyone else at mi6 he still has a lot of apologise for in scorpia risingchristmas at gunpoint: on GOD this is exactly what i wanted! i wanted to see more of alex and ian's relationship!!! and we got served!!!!!!! the comedy of alex getting his puns and quips from his uncle, of ian trying to hide his job from alex while wrestling a man for a gun is only offset by the reflective narration which involves a lot of alex questioning his relationship w ian and seeming quite resentful of him - not unjustified ofc but it's just sad to know that alex has bought so into mi6's story when it comes to ianspy trap: follows straight on from skeleton key and the best of the short stories - alex is in a strange hospital and attending therapy and everything just seems a little off。 which is exactly what horowitz writes best 。。。more

Secret Weapon contains seven short stories that fit in amongst the previous eleven Alex Rider adventures。 The Alex Rider books are a series that I have always highly enjoyed。 And I wasn't let down by this book either。 My only thing is that I wish the stories were longer。 Almost all of them left me wanting to know more, I had many questions! I also wish that it was mentioned where among the other stories these short stories actually fell - but this could just be a 'me thing' being that I like thi Secret Weapon contains seven short stories that fit in amongst the previous eleven Alex Rider adventures。 The Alex Rider books are a series that I have always highly enjoyed。 And I wasn't let down by this book either。 My only thing is that I wish the stories were longer。 Almost all of them left me wanting to know more, I had many questions! I also wish that it was mentioned where among the other stories these short stories actually fell - but this could just be a 'me thing' being that I like things to have an order of some kind to them and like to fill in the gaps。 As per usual the stories were well crafted, the characters real, but I wouldn't expect anything less from Anthony Horowitz。 Secret Weapon got me excited about Alex Rider again and wanting to not only reread all the previous books but also looking forward to those that are to come。 Will you miss anything if you were to skip this book? No, it doesn't add anything to the overall storyline or to Alex's growth as a character。 But is it enjoyable nonetheless? Yes。 If you want an easy read and to get back into the world of Alex Rider and his adventures then this is your book。 。。。more

Fun set of short stories to go with the overall Alex Rider series! As they are short stories, there's much more emphasis on quick action, so the villains are less complex than in the main books, but still fun! It was okay。 It is written for middle school kids。 Boys really like this series and because I worked in at a school lIbrary I read the series to see what they were all about and could see why they were popular。 This book was a little disappointing。 You can't really read it as a stand alone because it does refer back to past books。 It was okay。 It is written for middle school kids。 Boys really like this series and because I worked in at a school lIbrary I read the series to see what they were all about and could see why they were popular。 This book was a little disappointing。 You can't really read it as a stand alone because it does refer back to past books。 。。。more
